St. John's Elementary School
School Rules and Practices
Arrival Time / Schedule
The arrival of the students in the morning must correspond to the set hours that are determine by the school because there is no supervision before 8:15 a.m.
You are responsible for the security of your child if he/she is dropped off before the supervised time (8:15 a.m.)
Recess Procedures
All children must go outside. Drinks and trips to washrooms are to be at the beginning of recess. Children should report to the duty teacher if it is necessary to re-enter the building during recess.
Lunch Policy
Students are encouraged to bring a nutritious lunch consisting of the four food groups.
A child who forgets his lunch should tell his teacher. A nutritious, low cost lunch will be provided, the cost of which must be repaid by the parent/guardian.
Students are also encouraged to bring environmentally friendly lunches. Lunches packed using reusable plastic containers and those resulting in the minimum of garbage are best.
Lunch Time
Students are not permitted to leave the school at lunch time unless a parent/guardian comes to pick them up. No written permission slip sent with the student will be accepted.
Children pass through many stages as they grow. They are constantly seeking new experience and testing their limits. Students must learn to choose appropriate actions when in a difficult situation. They also have to learn to take responsibility for their own behaviors and accept the consequences if they make an inappropriate choice.
Classroom rules are established at the beginning of each year by the classroom teacher and the students.
Rules
- Everyone has the right to a safe school environment. Matches, lighters, knives, guns of any kind or any other objects that could be used as a weapon, cannot be brought to school.
- Respectful language must be used: swearing, and name calling that would make someone else feel uncomfortable are unacceptable.
- Because of the risk of injury, rocks, sticks, snowballs, etc. are not to be thrown in the yard.
- To ensure the safety of all, there is to be no aggressive or hurtful physical contact e.g. fighting, kicking, pushing, biting and spitting.
- All students should walk in the halls in order to get to and from classes promptly and safely.
- Students must stay within the boundaries of the school yard at playtime.
- Students are to change their shoes before entering the classroom. This reduces the amount of sand, snow and mud brought into the classroom and reduces the danger of slipping.
- To maintain a clean environment, all litter must be place within the provided containers.
- We do not permit students to bring any form of toys, trading cards (Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh) and any form of electronics (I-pods, MP3 players, etc.) to school.
